I love carpeting my floors because it makes it so soft and pretty. But when I learned about how dirty carpets can affect our health, I wanted to throw everything away. Of course, that was not a sensible move to make. Instead, I made sure that I cleaned my carpet at least 3 times a week. I also made sure that a professional carpet cleaning Tulsa came and cleaned deep within the carpet’s fabrics. I don’t want anyone to suffer the health consequences of a dirty carpet. This is why I did a lot of research about how dirty carpets can affect our health. Here are my findings.

What Hides Inside A Carpet?

Carpets look soft and pretty from the outside, but when you zoom inside, you will see a lot of nasty things. Carpets accumulate dust mites, molds, bacteria, pet and human hair, grime, and anything else that makes its way inside. One of the most dangerous microbes is mycotoxins. This forms when molds live together in harmony. So dirty carpets are the perfect breeding ground for mycotoxins. Imagine what happens every time you step on your carpets. The dirty and nasty particles hidden inside will escape into the air.

How Can Dirty Carpets Affect Your Health?

There are many health issues that can arise from dirty carpets. Here are some of the most common ones.

Respiratory Problems

If these nasty particles escape in the air, then your indoor air quality will become poor. You are now breathing air contaminated with dust mites, bacteria, dirt, and mycotoxins. And you can see why this leads to a lot of respiratory problems. Respiratory problems include lung cancer, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, pneumonia, and a lot more. It was bad for my family because I already had a child that had some breathing problems. Imagine how much worse it got when I left my carpets as it was.

Allergic Problems

You should resist carpeting your floors if there is someone with allergies. Dirty carpets are one of the most common ways to trigger allergies. If you combine all particles found inside, then allergens and pollutants will thrive. As someone with allergies, you should stay away from allergens and pollutants as much as you can.

Skin Problems

You might know that dirty carpets can cause respiratory and allergic problems, but did you know it also causes skin problems? Rashes, athlete’s foot, and skin asthma are the most common. Once you step on a dirty carpet barefoot, all the fungi and bacteria cling to your feet. If there is a wound, cut, or any skin opening, the bacteria and fungi can get inside and cause all kinds of health havoc.

How Can You Avoid All This?

Maintaining a carpet requires dedication. You need to clean it every day or at least 3 times a week. If you are not willing to do that, then avoid carpets altogether. But cleaning it yourself is not enough. You should also hire a professional carpet cleaner to clean the deep and intricate layers of the fiber.
