Apple to launch new AirPods with USB-C charging case along with iPhone 15

Apple is gearing up for its biggest event of the year, where it is expected to unveil the iPhone 15 series and the Apple Watch Series 9. However, these are not the only products that the tech giant may announce on September 12. According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple may also introduce updated AirPods with a USB-C charging port in the case.

New AirPods to match the new iPhones

The report, citing Mark Gurman, a reliable Apple analyst, claims that the new AirPods will have a USB-C charging port in the case to match the new iPhones, which will reportedly ditch the Lightning port in favor of the USB-C port. This would be a major change for Apple, which has been using the Lightning port for its iPhones and most of its accessories since 2012.

The USB-C port is more versatile and compatible than the Lightning port, as it can be used to connect various devices and accessories, such as monitors, keyboards, mice, cameras, and more. It also supports faster data transfer and charging speeds than the Lightning port. The USB-C port is already present in some of Apple’s products, such as the iPad Pro, the iPad Air, and the MacBooks.

Apple to launch new AirPods with USB-C

The report does not provide any other details about the new AirPods, such as whether they will have any new features or design changes. It is possible that Apple will only update the charging port in the case and keep everything else the same. The current generation of AirPods was launched in late 2021, while the AirPods Pro 2 was launched in September 2022.

What else to expect from the Apple event

The main attraction of the Apple event will be the iPhone 15 series, which is expected to consist of four models: the iPhone 15 standard model, the iPhone 15 Plus, the iPhone 15 Pro, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The new iPhones are rumored to have a smaller notch, a faster A16 chip, improved cameras, a 120Hz refresh rate display for the Pro models, and a larger battery.

Another product that is likely to be unveiled at the event is the Apple Watch Series 9, which is said to have a new design with flat edges and a larger screen. The new smartwatch may also have better health features, such as blood pressure monitoring and body temperature sensing. The Apple Watch Series 9 may come in two sizes: 41mm and 45mm.

Apart from these products, Apple may also announce some other updates and surprises at the event, such as new iPads, new Macs, new AirTags, new software features, and more. The event will take place both online and at Apple’s Steve Jobs Theater on September 12 at 10 a.m. PDT (10:30 p.m. IST).
