Haryana Cricketer Arrested for Cheating Rishabh Pant and Others

The Fraudulent Scheme

Mrinank Singh, a former cricketer who played for Haryana Under-19s and was part of the IPL auction list in 2018, has been arrested for cheating several people, including India’s star wicketkeeper and Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant. Singh allegedly conned Pant of Rs 1.63 crore in February 2021 by promising to resell luxury watches, bags, and jewellery at discounted prices. He gave Pant a cheque that bounced due to insufficient funds.

Singh also duped a Mumbai-based businessman of Rs 6 lakh by posing as a luxury goods dealer. He was arrested by the Juhu Police earlier this month and is currently lodged at the Arthur Road jail. According to the police, Singh used fake references and documents to gain the trust of his victims. He also claimed to have contacts with several celebrities and cricketers.

The Legal Action

Pant and his manager, Puneet Solanki, filed a case against Singh in February 2021 under the Negotiable Instruments Act. The Saket court last week issued a notice to the Arthur Road Jail to present Singh for the hearing. Pant’s complaint stated that he was deceived by Singh, who produced false references to earn his trust. Pant wanted to buy two watches, a Franck Muller Vanguard Yachting Series watch and a Richard Mille watch, and paid Rs 36,25,120 and Rs 62,60,000, respectively. He also handed over a luxury watch and few jewellery items worth Rs 65,70,731 for resale.

Haryana Cricketer Arrested

The businessman, who did not wish to be named, said that he met Singh through a common friend and was impressed by his lifestyle. He said that Singh offered to sell him a Rolex watch for Rs 6 lakh and took the money in advance. However, he never delivered the watch and stopped answering his calls. He then approached the Juhu Police and filed a complaint.

The Other Victims

The police said that Singh has cheated several other people in a similar manner. He used to book rooms in five-star hotels and leave without paying the bills. He also borrowed money from his friends and acquaintances and never returned it. He also duped a film director of Rs 10 lakh by promising to arrange a meeting with a Bollywood star. The police are investigating the extent of his fraud and the number of his victims.

Singh, who hails from Gurgaon, had a promising cricket career but could not make it to the IPL. He played for Haryana Under-19s in the 2015-16 season and scored 292 runs in seven matches. He was also part of the IPL auction list in 2018 but went unsold. He then turned to the luxury goods business and started cheating people.
