Washington: Foreigners living in the United States are given important positions in the government. When Ronald Reagan was president from 1981 to 1989, an Indian was appointed to a government post for the first time.
60 Indian Americans were given top positions during Barack Obama’s presidency. When he was succeeded by Donald Trump, there were Indians in more than 80 key positions. More than 130 important positions in the administration of Joe Biden, who was sworn in as the President of the United States in 2021, are decorated by people of Indian origin.
Indiaspora, a US-based organization for Indians living abroad, has compiled a list of Indians in key positions in the US. Accordingly, there are Indians in all major departments of the US administration, starting with Vice President Kamala Harris.
“This is a recognition for Indians who work with a spirit of service,” noted M.R. Rangasamy, a famous businessman and president of Indiaspora.
There are 40 Indian Americans in provincial and territorial governments, including four Indians in the House of Representatives in the US Parliament. Apart from this, there are Indians at the helm of more than 20 American companies, including Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
