Nintendo Confirms No DLC Plans for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Fans Disappointed by Lack of Additional Content

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed Breath of the Wild, was released on May 12, 2023 for the Nintendo Switch. The game received rave reviews from critics and fans alike, who praised its stunning graphics, immersive gameplay, and emotional story. However, some fans were hoping for more content to extend their adventure in Hyrule, such as new quests, items, dungeons, and challenges.

Unfortunately, Nintendo has dashed those hopes by confirming that there are no plans to release any downloadable content (DLC) for Tears of the Kingdom. In an interview with Famitsu, Eiji Aonuma, the producer of the Zelda series, said that the development team had poured all their efforts into making the game as complete and satisfying as possible, and that they were now moving on to a brand new project in the series.

Comparison with Breath of the Wild DLC

This announcement came as a surprise to many fans, who expected Tears of the Kingdom to follow the same pattern as its predecessor, Breath of the Wild. The latter game had two DLC packs that were released three and nine months after its launch, respectively. The DLC packs added new features such as the Trial of the Sword, Master Mode, Hero’s Path Mode, the Champions’ Ballad quest, and the Master Cycle Zero motorcycle. They also included new costumes and equipment inspired by previous Zelda games and other Nintendo franchises.

Nintendo Confirms No DLC Plans for Zelda

Many fans were hoping for similar or even more ambitious DLC for Tears of the Kingdom, which could have explored more aspects of the game’s rich lore, characters, and world. Some fan suggestions included a prequel story that showed how Ganondorf became corrupted by Malice, a post-game story that showed how Link and Zelda rebuilt Hyrule after defeating Ganon, and a crossover story that featured characters from other Nintendo games such as Mario, Kirby, and Animal Crossing.

New Amiibo Announced for Zelda and Ganondorf

However, not all is lost for fans who want more content for Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo has announced that they will release two new Amiibo figures for Zelda and Ganondorf on September 15, 2023. These figures will be compatible with Tears of the Kingdom and will unlock exclusive features in the game. For example, scanning the Zelda Amiibo will allow players to change her hairstyle and outfit in the game, while scanning the Ganondorf Amiibo will allow players to play as him in a special mode where they can unleash his dark powers.

Nintendo has also hinted that they may release more Amiibo figures for other characters in Tears of the Kingdom in the future, such as Impa, Sidon, Riju, Yunobo, and Teba. These figures could also add new features and modes to the game that would enhance its replay value and variety.

What’s Next for the Zelda Series?

While some fans may be disappointed by the lack of DLC for Tears of the Kingdom, others may be excited by the prospect of a brand new Zelda game in development. Aonuma did not reveal any details about this project, but he said that it would be different from Tears of the Kingdom and that it would surprise fans with its innovation and creativity.

Some fans have speculated that this new game could be a remake or a reimagining of an older Zelda game, such as Ocarina of Time or Skyward Sword. Others have suggested that it could be a spin-off or a crossover game that features elements from other genres or franchises. Whatever it is, fans can expect Nintendo to deliver another masterpiece that will continue to push the boundaries of gaming and storytelling.
