The iconic boy band NSYNC has surprised their fans with a reunion and a new song for the upcoming animated movie Trolls Band Together. The song, titled “Better Place”, is the first original music from the group in 20 years and will be featured in the soundtrack of the film, which stars NSYNC’s lead singer Justin Timberlake.
A teaser for the fans
NSYNC, which consists of Timberlake, Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick, sparked rumors of a reunion when they appeared together at the MTV VMAs on Tuesday night to present the first award of the show. They shared the stage with pop superstar Taylor Swift, who expressed her curiosity about what they were planning to do next.
“Are you doing something? What’s going to happen now? They’re going to do something and I need to know what it is,” Swift said as she accepted the award for Best Pop.
The next day, the band posted a cryptic video on Instagram with a caption that read “👀”. The video showed them walking together in a hallway with the Friends theme song playing in the background. The clip also featured a countdown that ended with the word “Tomorrow”.
A new trailer with a new song
On Wednesday night, the band revealed their secret project: a new song for the third installment of the Trolls franchise, in which Timberlake voices one of the main characters, Branch. A new trailer for the movie was released, featuring snippets of “Better Place” and another NSYNC classic, “I Want You Back”.
The trailer also revealed that Branch has a hidden past: he used to be in a popular boy band called BroZone, along with four other trolls voiced by Troye Sivan, Eric André, Daveed Diggs, and Kid Cudi. Branch’s girlfriend Poppy, voiced by Anna Kendrick, is shocked to learn that her favorite band is actually his former group.
Trolls Band Together follows Poppy and Branch as they discover that there are other musical trolls in different lands, each with their own genre and style. They have to unite them against a new threat that wants to silence all music. The movie also features new and returning voice actors such as Amy Schumer, Andrew Rannells, Camila Cabello, Zosia Mamet, RuPaul, Zooey Deschanel, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Kenan Thompson, and Kunal Nayyar.
A milestone for NSYNC
“Better Place” is NSYNC’s first new song since their 2001 album Celebrity, which spawned hits such as “Pop”, “Gone”, and “Girlfriend”. The band went on an indefinite hiatus in 2002 and has since reunited only for occasional appearances, such as their performance at the 2013 MTV VMAs and their induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018.
The song was written by Timberlake and is expected to be released on Sept. 29, along with the full soundtrack of Trolls Band Together. The movie will hit theaters on Nov. 17.
NSYNC fans have been eagerly waiting for new music from the band for two decades and are thrilled to hear their voices together again. The song is also a testament to the enduring friendship and chemistry of the five members, who have remained close despite pursuing different careers and projects.
NSYNC is back with new music for Trolls Band Together and fans can’t wait to hear more from them.
